Granted, she'd promised herself that she'd make the final stretch count. But at the expense of her own sanity? Emerging from the library with a weary expression, it wasn't until the brunette noticed the diminishing sunlight and empty corridors that she realized exactly how many hours she'd whittled away on only one assignment. Why hadn't the librarian alerted her to the fact that curfew was quickly approaching? Did the old bat really expect her to make it up to the tower in time? Quite irate with the situation, Charlotte slung her bag over one shoulder with an exasperated sigh, and turned down one of the lesser-known hallways, intending to make as much use of available shortcuts as possible. Merlin knew, she couldn't afford a detention this year. Someone else had other plans, however. Before she'd managed to move even three quarters down the length of the hall, she found herself confronted with Peeves, the castle poltergeist. In all honesty, there wasn't anyone or anything that caused her more distress than that particular spirit. And she most certainly was not in any mood to deal with his antics now. "Peeves, I really don't have time for this now. Come and pester me tomorrow, alright?" But her pleading fell on deaf ears, as he swooped down from the ceiling and tore the bottom of her book-bag, causing it to open and all of her extra parchment, quills and ink pots to scatter across the polished marble floor. Before she could turn and throw a few choice words at him, he'd already rocketed around the far corner and off down a separate hallway, cackling wildly all the way. It was a shame, really, that such a beautiful place as Hogwarts was haunted by possibly the most infuriating being she'd ever had the misfortune to cross paths with. But there wasn't much to be done, aside from cleaning up the mess and moving on as quickly as possible. She just hoped that there wouldn't be any further deterrents, as her foul mood simply would not have it. |
